Motorcycle boots are motorcycle apparel designed to protect the feet, ankles, and legs of motorcyclists. They have low heels and can reach below or above the ankle, and are made of strong, thick leather or a combination of leather and other materials. Motorcycle boots often include waterproof lining and energy-absorbing materials and padding. Most harness boots have a square toe with a steel toe cap and leather straps. The purpose of harness boots is to protect the motorcyclist from the heat of the exhaust pipes. Racing boots (sport bike boots) are lower, just above the ankle with very low heels, and are designed for riding on race tracks or hard pavement. Motocross boots (off-road boots) usually reach just below the knee and are more rigid.
